Has Anyone gotten ProTools to work with Windows Vista??
OK OK OK...I KNOW!!!
It's blasphemy to run PT on a Windows PC (at least to 99.999% of the engineers I talk to)....but nonetheless I have decided to try and walk on the dark side...
Have ANY of you been able to get that s**t working on a laptop running Vista?
Digi suppot has been less than helpful to say the least and I am beginning to feel like PT working on Vista is the equivalent to someone claiming to have seen Sasqauatch!
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!...If you are expert on this s**t and live in LA, I would be willing to come to you & smoke you out or buy a 6er for you time... |

Re: Has Anyone gotten ProTools to work with Windows Vista??
shocking enough, the post production studio i work at runs windows + pt on 90%
of their cpu's (although i assist mixes on windows platform, i bring my macbook to work just in case cause im a mac guy )
anyway,
yes pt runs perfectly fine on vista.
its not qualified to run on vista sp1, but it works.
you need pt 7.4 le (not sure about hd, at the studio i work at, all the hd systems are running xp or tiger)
but i just set up 3 edit bays with pt 7.4 and vista ultimate. |

Re: Has Anyone gotten ProTools to work with Windows Vista??
I have the latest build on Vista Business and they SWEAR it should run fine, but when the f**ker goes to build the DAE Objects, it just locks up and wont let me do a damn thing except reboot! ALL of my other apps work fine and see my rack (tho they're having a tuff time trying to use the interface direct), so I am @ a loss as to what the culprit could be...
When I hit up Digi Support about it, they tried to pin it on the PCMCIA Firewire card I have in my ThinkPad T60, but when I checked the chipset in their index, I was in the clear...
I wonder if it really could be the Business Edition vs Ultimate that is the problem...wouldn't surprise me with Windows OS BS that goes on...

Sorry, didn't mean to come off snappy brudda, I know you were just trying to help...and you're dead on, when it comes to these stupid ass issues, it's usually the most obvious s**t in the world...
I have a feeling that if it's not the OS itself, it MAY be the firewire card, but f**kin A, everything ELSE seems to work fine.... |

Re: Has Anyone gotten ProTools to work with Windows Vista??
Any "best brands" etc for FW 400/800 Cards that are compatible with IBM ThinkPad t60 running 3GB RAM on Vista Business and ProTools?
Do you think it would be worth it to try and upgrade to Vista Ultimate? |
