The Joe the Plumber narrative is funny to me. You have to seay you are going to make more than 250,000 just to get on McCain's radar. Then he will talk to you or about you.
This debate was by far the best, the moderator and the questions were the best yet, I think Bob Schiefer should moderate all the debates.
Watching McCain's face on the split-screen when Obama was speaking was hilarious (not to mention all those weird sighs and grunts). Its like his anger and comtempt was palpable. |

I get the feeling these two don't like each other much ......... LOL
Despite the fact that there should have been a bulletproof glass panel in the middle of the table I liked this format. There was much more meat in the discussion and I felt like FINALLY we got some specifics. The second debate was a bunch of stump speeches chopped up into a salad. This one was much more interesting and engaging. |

seriously.....i am not a joe six pack. i am not joe the plumber. i don't think joe's concerns really outweigh the problems of the rest of the country, but we can't get away from that.
i kind of wanted obama to retort with something like 'shaniqua from queens' who wanted to buy a nail salon, but couldn't because mccain cut taxes for everyone except for the middle class, so now shes stuck renting a chair at some ghetto salon making 1/3rd of her potential or something.
i want urban and real examples. the midwest does not contribute anything remotely close to the amount of tax dollars that come from the costal states (I read somewhere and I don't know the source anymore, that for every $1 it sends out in federal taxes, they get something like $0.60 or $0.70 back). when joe pulls his weight, then joe deserves to have a voice.
btw i wonder if 'joe' was the one yelling out 'kill him' or 'terrorist' at ol johnny boys rallys?

i didnt see much of the debate, caught the tail end of it. i did see a lot of recap footage on the news tho. i cant really say how i think their actual debate went but i got that same exact vibe from mccain. it was almost like he just wanted to stand up, sock obama and walk away. mccain's smugness really bugs me too.

Joe the Plumber is a disproportionate part of the American population. The majority of people don't own businesses. This guy's problems are valid but if we are going to personify the American population wouldn't it be better to use Joe Smith the guy who shares a cubicle with another guy who has watched his 401k plummet and is more concerned with the $60 his employer is taking out of his check for health insurance than whether Obama is going to force his employer to keep his health insurance going. The majority of people work for someone else. They do drink six packs but that's only to drown their sorrows ESPECIALLY if they live in the Midwest. Seriously ... go to Detroit if you want to see some real hard times. |
