Re: so i guess the first step...

what is your definition of pirated out of curiosity?

i figure the obvious released material thats being sold currently is a given. but is it live recordings from shows? live recordings from radio shows?

just so we don't overstep the line. i know i got one deleted prior for reposting a mix an artist had posted. so i think guidelines would be helpful.

Re: so i guess the first step...

if it wasn't posted by the artist to give away for free it's pirated.

so radio shows from BBC/Radio 1 etc are pirated. live sets that weren't posted by the artist are pirated.

Re: so i guess the first step...

Ok, so to be clear,

ANYTHING not specifically posted by the DJ/Host/Producer of that mix is to be rep is to be removed/reported to whiz for removal?

Kinda of a bummer, BUT, I can't blame eecue, there are plenty of places out there to obtain these types of sets...

sounds good to me

Re: so i guess the first step...

Hmmmm, I think if its a legit link - that should be OK?

Obviously - posting live sets by the big dogs with a link to yousendit or megaupload is getting deleted.

but, posting up links to mixes from the artists website, or sets that have been made available for download in the audio section of dnbarena - and posting a link to that seems like it should be OK (it is not pirated material in any fashion)

Re: so i guess the first step...

I think what I am trying to say it, if it has been made available to the artist to give away for free (online) - and posted up in the audio section of dnbarena, or the artists personal website - posting a link to that should be OK, yeah?

Re: so i guess the first step...

exactly, if the set is made available by the artist, or is up on dnb arena it's cool.

if it's from yousendit, it's most likely not cool.

Re: so i guess the first step...

Re: so i guess the first step...

what about mixes off of here?:

http://www.dnb-sets.de/

It basically a search engine that looks through DNB sites for mixes.

You might want to check on pirated tunes in mixes as well

Re: so i guess the first step...

i see a quick demise to this forum if we start banning all the 'pirated' sets..

i see the logic, but as most sets are pulled from other websites and what not, its a close and difficult call to see who originally posted up the mix..

BBC for instance..since is a radio station, is it really pirated? they broadcasted it for free, for people to listen to.. most of it is even on podcast... if we post a link, is it pirated?

Re: so i guess the first step...

I can tell you as moderator - I am not going to become the dub plate police - trying to determine if all the tunes on a mix are legit or not.

If you see something out of place, Name and Shame, that is more of an appropriate punishment than deleting a thread, plus it gives that person a chance to address the charge...

Also, it would get too far down the path of speculation to determine if someone really has authorization to use a tune or not. Better to just bring up the question in the thread and ask them - if one is so inclined.

Re: so i guess the first step...

yes if it is a radio one mix it is pirated. just because it is broadcast does not mean it is licensed to you to copy and distribute on the internet.

honestly i would rather this form die off than get sued because we are linking to pirated music.

now as far as dubplates in mixes i don't want to go there.

Re: so i guess the first step...

If you are the original artist posting up your work it's one thing, if other people are putting their name on your s**t or re-distributing your s**t on to a lot of people (broadcasting) and you didn't specifically tell them that was cool, that's kinda wack. Doing something creative to another person's work means you can put your name on the work you did (DJing, remixing, etc). Linking to other people's s**t a bunch of times in various forums is kinda stupid, once the original artist posts the material anyone on the internet can access it from anywhere. I mean when it comes down to it, can you copyright the sin wave? Or a synth patch, or a vocal snippet?

Re: so i guess the first step...

I see what reds**t is saying which brings up my question cuz I like to mix up my new vinyl and post the sets here for people to check out not only for others to have something new to bump that I worked hard to put together but to get opinions as well. It's not like i'm just playing songs one after another for the sake of pirating music i'm putting together a for real mix is that cool? or should I stop doing that?
