dumbstep

i've been trying to trace the root of this word. my studies into the etymology have lead me to the general area of the inland empire area of Southern California. Granted this area has blessed us with McDonalds and the Hell's Angels, along with meth labs, Famous Stars and Straps, spiked hair and knee length black socks on males, and the classic t-shirt" suicide, homicide, genocide, riverside."

but just knowing where the word originates doesn't always explain the useage.

my opinion is that the base motivation for the word has been fear or phobia.

prosophobia to be exact.

if i was to speculate on causes, i would have to lean towards the metals from cans of beer causing early Alzheimers symptoms.

I will def agree that the majority of Dubstep sounds similar to a siren you would hear when your country has been nuked.

in my sometimes not so humble opinon....
most new music from old genre SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
from heavy metal to hip hop to jungle..
I am sorry to say that all my favorite music styles have taken a massive nose dive over the past few years...
Dont get me wrong I have been a hardcore junglist since RAW first starting playing that sound at the gabber parties... but I mostly listen to older jungle nowwa days...
I am not trying to poo poo on the many talented djs and producers trying to keep it alive.. I have to actually that you guys... but honestly overall it was getting a little boring. Thank god dubstep came around and showed everybody that bass frequencies and solid grooves work better at lower tempos. Dont get mad at the junglist for gravitating toward a sound that just seems to work.
that being said I hope that it was a good learning experience for everybody and we get back to making jungle music that works instead of the common over the top sper mega explosive sound that just got boring. It isnt necesary to squeeze in every frequency into a tune to make it work..
I love both sounds and I hope they both continue to grow and refine themselves..
also teekay the comment about the canned beer drinking is just comedy...
and it is the same sence of humor that you shoudl consider when ya see a bumbstep shirt... one of my beefs with jungle isthat we are all so seriuos about how seriuos jungle buisness is...
I think we forgot how to have fun... lets lighten up and poke a litte fun at ourselves some times.... bumbstep, dubstep whatever... as long as the girls keep comming out and the bass keep booming who cares what you call it.

p.s. I hope hip hop and rock also gets better... listening to 1 or 2 new albumns I really dig a year is saddening... In the 1990s there were hundreds of fresh artists bring the heat constantly now I have to really dig to find something I really dig.

Stickin to my guns... still can't get into it. Maybe one or two tracks I can dig on, but overall, just doesn't do it for me. And this coming from an old roots/dub head. But then again.. who am I?

and 40 acres and a mule!!! (make sure it is prime I.E. relastate though, i'm thinking Claremont it's nice there, and doesn't smell as bad as Chino Hills and Norco is out cuz i'm alergic to horses lol

i was turned off by dubstep at first, but "its a pity" and other raggastep got me hooked.

the dumbstep/clownstep reference is classic tho

since we've been making it i been wearing the dumbstep shirt out to upgrade and other shows...
and the dubstep heads have actually started calling it dumbstep too...

consider it a term of endearment...

haters like it and steppers are adopting it
